The Canadian Building Energy End-use Data and Analysis Centre (CBEEDAC) is a research centre responsible for improving knowledge and accessibility
of building energy data for the Canadian residential, commercial,
and institutional sectors. CBEEDAC (pronounced Cee-Bee-Dak) is one of the three Data & Analysis Centres supported by Natural Resources Canada as part of the National Energy Use Database initiative.
Core Objectives
The core objectives of the Centre are:
- To identify and catalogue relevant sources of energy end-use
data and relevant literature and to assess deficiencies therein,
- To establish, maintain and disseminate relevant databases,
- To complete economic, statistical and technical analysis
of energy end-use and energy-use technologies, and
- To build capacity through the development of a centre of expertise
that will serve as a point of contact for sponsors and interested
parties, and that will focus on the advancement of the training
of business and economics graduate students in the area of residential,
commercial and institutional energy end-use analysis.

- Energy consumed in buildings and the factors influencing energy efficiency
- Energy-related practices and behaviour of households, building managers, owners, builders, occupants
- Building and environmental awareness
- Purchase and utilization of appliances and energy equipment (furnace, fridge…)
- Physical characteristics of buildings and their effects on energy use
- Billing of energy consumption and various topics related to utility companies
- Energy-realted renovations and investments
- Effectiveness, measured or estimated, of government programs and other policies for reducing energy use in buildings
- Energy price evolution, awareness and the responsiveness of demand to energy price changes
- Organization of energy markets

- Professor - Department of Economics, University of Alberta.
- Applied econometrician working predominantly on econometric
specification and estimation, particularly of demand and cost
systems.
- Focus of much of this work pertains to energy use –
a number of these papers have dealt with demand patterns in
the residential (and commercial) sectors.
- Recent work includes a number of publications in international
journals that concern the imposition of curvature restrictions
in demand systems so that the flexibility of the functional
specification is maintained, and on developing new specifications
of demand systems.

Graduate Students/Research Assistants
Each year CBEEDAC hires two graduate students from among those registered in graduate programs in the Department of Economics at the University of Alberta on a part-time basis during the fall and winter university terms (September to April). These students work on
various research activities and projects relevant
to the Centre’s core objectives. During the summer months, CBEEDAC typically hires graduate and in some cases honours undergraduate students on a full-time or part-time basis.
